Top 5 Money-Saving Tips for Trade Shows

Top 5 Money-Saving Tips for Trade Shows

Preparing for a trade show can be challenging, and budgeting is usually one of the biggest hurdles. But you don't have to break the bank to make a big impression. Here are 5 tips I have learned to save money without compromising on quality.

1. Book Early- This may be a "duh" tip, but you would be surprised how many people wait until the last minute to book a hotel or their booth space! Book everything early. Set alerts on your phone when early discounts are due to save on costs. Planning ahead can save a bundle.

2. Outshine, Don't Outspend- this is one of my biggest tips. Invest in a standout, reusable display. Think sustainability and long-term usage and put all your energy into the DESIGN rather than the structure. You can change out your graphics for cheap and still keep the same display system year after year or show after show. Invest in a good designer and your dollars are better spent.

3. Bring Your Own- cut down on rental fees by bringing your own furnishings like a waste paper basket (just saved you $30), a cool shelving unit that disassembles easily or my favorite hack- your flooring! If you have a small booth (100 sq feet to 200 sq feet) you can buy wood puzzle panels on Amazon for a quarter of the money it will cost you to rent carpet. It will look nicer and be much more comfortable to stand on all those hours. Pack it up at the end of the show and res-use for next time!

4. Network- Harness the power of pre-show marketing. Connect with attendees and set up meetings in advance. Advertise your booth at the show on LinkedIn, send out emails and social campaigns, set up a landing page on your website to promote the show and your products or services. These are all inexpensive ways to promote your presence before, during and after the show.

5. Staffing Strategically- Everyone at the office wants to come to the show, but make sure you are bringing team members who are multifacted- those who can sell, educate and network. This will lower your travel cost and increase your trade show ROI.

Remember, with strategic planning and some creativity, you can scale down on expenses without downgrading your presence.
